Mandy is an Army veteran who grew up in Indiana on a horse farm. She was searching for something that would fill the gap of athletics after school, which lead her to try CrossFit. She started CrossFit in September 2012 during a long work assignment in Yuba City, CA and was immediately hooked. She dropped into many gyms around the world while traveling for work and when home, was searching for a gym that she could call home. In May 2014, she dropped into Blue Crab CrossFit and never looked back! The BCCF Family experience inspired Mandy to learn as much as she could, which motivated her to complete the CrossFit Level 1, CrossFit Level 2 certification, USA Weightlifting Level 1 & 2 certifications, and most recently the Precision Nutrition Certification. In June 2022, Mandy and her husband Josh had the amazing opportunity to take the reins of BCCF. Since setting foot in a CrossFit gym, she never imagined herself being a coach, let alone an Affiliate owner. It’s amazing the many doors that CrossFit has opened for them. They cannot wait to see what the future holds for us! She hopes to inspire others to achieve what they never thought could be achieved.

What made you want to be a coach? I loved CrossFit so much and what it enables people to achieve at all ages. I couldn’t think of a better way to love it more than to learn the trade and be able to give back to the amazing community that got me started!
What’s the most rewarding thing about being a coach? Seeing people achieve things they didn’t know or think they could ever achieve. Challenge yourself daily so that you don’t get complacent and you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish!
What’s your favorite movement? The Bear Complex
What’s your favorite workout? DT
What contributes to your success at BCCF? Being preventative, not reactive. I treat my body like a vehicle – there is preventative maintenance that you should do on your vehicle, so why wouldn’t you do it on your body? Regular massages – working with chiropractors/physical therapists if there is a problem area. Don’t ignore pain – it’ll only get worse over time! If you need recommendations, please ask. I have a list of talented people that can help you feel better!
What’s your advice to our members? Remember every day you are at the gym, you’re here to challenge yourself and to become a better version of yourself. You’ll have bad days – embrace them – don’t beat yourself up over them. Take the lessons learned from that day and change your approach next time.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Angel moved to Maryland in 2012 and started doing CrossFit in summer 2014 at Blue Crab Crossfit. After spending the first couple years ‘ messing ‘ around and not taking it seriously, he finally decided to ‘ be serious ‘ about it, losing over 90lbs in the process and getting his CFL1 Certification at CrossFit Mayhem in June 2019. Since then, he started coaching at Blue Crab CrossFit where he spends most evenings either training, coaching classes or helping BCCF athletes with their fitness journey!
Hometown: Yauco, Puerto Rico
What made you want to be a coach? I want people to be the best they can be and I highly believe CrossFit can help you get there both physically and mentally. Also, helping everyone achieve goals they thought impossible( i.e a Strict Pull-up), that indescribable feeling of accomplishing thought to be impossible is just awesome.
What’s the most rewarding things about being a coach? By far, my favorite thing about CrossFit is seeing how the CrossFit community comes together as one to make each other better both physically and mentally day in and day out. Seeing how they make progress and take pride for all the hard work they put to achieve any goal they want to accomplish.
What’s your favorite movement? I’ll pick two because of them is Rowing and that is technically a ‘machine’ there is something great about that in general, it works all the body. I’d say as far as a movement, I’ll go with Squat Cleans (to no one’s surprise)
What’s your favorite workout? The Chief, simple yet crushing.
What contributes to your success at BCCF? The people around me, surround yourself with people who want to better themselves and it will be very easy for you to be successful as well.
What’s your advice to our members?
- Consistency is key, show up everyday and put in the work.
- Don’t underestimate the power of nutrition, it will advance your performance way more than you think.
- Scale weights or movements when they don’t feel right, there is no shame on backing up a little bit to then be able to push further later.

Coach Tom B. was born and raised in north New Jersey. Growing up he was very active and tried pretty much any sport you could think of. By the time college came around, he settled in with cross country and track and field, which he continued running after college for some time. His previous position within his company had him traveling every single week, so he didn’t join a gym for the longest time and just kept up with running. Eventually the travel stopped which gave him the opportunity to join Blue Crab Crossfit and the rest is history.
What made you want to be a coach?
I have always enjoyed being active, working out, and getting better at different skills or achieving goals I previously didn’t have. I would like to share in these passions and help others improve on skills they previously didn’t believe they could achieve.
What’s the most rewarding thing about being a coach?
Helping others accomplish a goal they previously may not have thought possible.
What’s your favorite movement?
Now that I have gotten pretty efficient at it, I would have to say the bar muscle up. I am hoping I can say the ring muscle soon, once I become efficient in that next!
What’s your favorite workout?
Hmmm does it make me a little crazy to say Murph? Has a good bit of running and just in general is a long grind workout.
I feel I may like Helen too, but I am unsure if I have ever done that one.
What contributes to your success at BCCF?
The coaching, for starters. Every one of them are always happy to help answer questions and help guide you to be the best version of yourself.
The other is the community. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging. It is what makes working out so enjoyable and wanting you to keep coming back. That leads to consistency and improving upon yourself!
What’s your advice to our members?
Have fun. This community is amazing and they make working out enjoyable. The more fun you have, the more you’ll want to come back for more. That improves your consistency, which in turn improves your overall health and makes you better!
Reaching your goals is a marathon not a sprint.
What can we find you doing when you’re not at the gym?
Normally it is hanging out with my wife and dog, Buddy. We love to go on walks or breweries during the weekends. But now we have one major addition, our newborn son Landon! For the time being, it will probably be figuring out how to do the whole parent thing… and still hang out at breweries.

I come from a big family… 4 brothers and 2 sisters, with the greatest parents anyone could ask for. Growing up was non-stop sports (soccer, lacrosse, snowboarding, dirtbikes, etc.) If I wasn’t at a team practice, then I was most likely outside in some sort of competition with my brothers – we’re still super competitive in everything we do. My main sports were soccer and lacrosse – I played both through high school and played lacrosse in college at Lynchburg College, where I majored in Graphic Design. Outside of coaching, I am going on 10 years working full-time as a Marketing Director for a manufacturing consulting company in Columbia. I currently live in Pasadena with my fiance, Jamie, and our two pitties – Wilson and Quinn. We get married this fall and if it wasn’t for BCCF we probably never would have met!

What made you want to be a coach? I’ve met some great coaches and have always been inspired by them to push myself and be a little better every day. I decided to take the CF-L1 when the opportunity came along in 2021. My hope as a coach is to inspire someone to want to be a little bit better every day, be it in or outside of the gym.
What’s the most rewarding thing about being a coach? I get to tell and watch people do burpees 🙂 Jokes aside, I get to be a part of people’s journey to becoming healthier, stronger, fitter, etc.

She was born in Pennsylvania but moved to Columbia, MD when she was in elementary school. She got into fitness as a teenager for fun by going to the gym with her dad and soon became interested in improving her health. Her interest in fitness has only grown since starting CrossFit.
She recently started a new job as an Information Security Analyst and while it can be hectic, it’s also very rewarding. She’s a self-proclaimed huge nerd so she’s usually gaming or reading in her spare time.

What’s the most rewarding thing about being a coach?
